* Rei rescues Kai and brings him back to the hideout, where he asks her questions about the package, leading her to storm out.
* Kai finds Ono tied up in a secret room and frees him. Ono reveals that Rei lied to Kai about being a rebel hacker and has instead been harvesting memories for profit.
* Ono is killed by Rei for telling Kai the truth and Kai confronts her about her lies. While Rei is distracted, Kai attempts to disarm her and destroys the hideout.
* Kai escapes the hideout and seeks out the last clue Ono had given him before his death – the key to a hidden memory Kai had stashed away for himself.
* Unable to deal with the terrible truth of his memory addiction, Kai reunites with Rei, asking her to leave the illegal memory trade behind. Rei agrees, and they make love.
* After their lovemaking, Rei pulls a gun on Kai, and he sees the truth with brutal clarity.
