* Theo and Jane prepare to attend the mysterious Black Ravens Winter Solstice retreat, where Jane will officially accept her spot in the magical organization.
* As they pack for the trip, Theo feels a headache creep in—one of many he’s been getting lately.
* Once they arrive at the grand manor, Theo immediately turns heads—his choice to turn down a Black Ravens badge and defy his family’s expectations make his presence hard to ignore.
* Theo is annoyed to discover that the other Black Ravens inductee is Gregory, their rival from The Trials, and he’s even more annoyed when Gregory begins to flirt with Jane in front of him.
* Sensing Theo’s jealousy, Jane pulls him away to the bathroom for a heated interlude, kissing him and telling him to focus on her instead.
* She takes the lead, reminding him exactly who has the upper hand and sending him into the evening determined to reclaim control.
* They learn that Jane will be facing off against Gregory in a magical duel—and that, if she doesn’t perform well, her invitation to the Black Ravens could be revoked.
